Best book ever

I'm disappointed. I was ready to give this book 5 stars, and instead I found it incredibly underwhelming. The plot was all over the place, the world-building felt rushed, and I was confused most of the time. The characters were underdeveloped, the romance was lacking, and throughout the entire book I kept playing the game of, "Which fantasy book is this scene inspired by?". I swear, there were so many moments that gave me flashbacks to other books with almost identical scenes. I didn't completely hate the FMC, but she was far too weak for someone who promised to kill literal gods. Every other page something was trying to kill her, or she was doing something reckless that should've gotten her killed, and she survived ONLY because someone else saved her. And I have to be honest: she is doing all this for her family, but I felt absolutely no attachments to them. This book is over 500 pages , despite how often they're mentioned, the author couldn't make me care for them. And the ending...I expected more from that too because everyone in the reviews kept hyping it up. But I guessed the twist pretty early on, and honestly, it wasn't that interesting. It felt like Kingdom of the Wicked and Brimstone had a child. I'll probably read the next book because, thankfully, this is only a duology, and I'm still kind of curious to see where it goes. I mean, I even read the sequel to Metal Slinger knowing fully well I was goin to hate it, just so I could give it a two-star review... This book gets 3 stars because of the audiobook. I would've DNF'd it if I'd been reading it myself. Instead, Vanessa Moyen and Anthony Palmini get a gold star for their performances and for making the story far more engaging than it would've been otherwise.
